As much as I enjoy the blogging part of my job, the reality is that it can sometimes be quite a lonely pursuit (cue violins). And although I manage to try out some cool spots after hours with various members of my family, a lot of my research is conducted in a solo capacity. Happily my fab friend Di accompanied me on my visit to today's find, and I must say that we were both impressed by Lime Tree Cafe - a neighbourhood spot that will no doubt become a firm favourite amongst locals.

The recently launched Lime Tree Cafe is the brainchild of one of the gents who ran the successful food offering at Imhoff Farm. Housed in a renovated shopping centre just off Ladies Mile Road, the space incorporates a deli area as well as a separate dining area for Olio Pizza. The cafe's indoor dining area has that welcoming, country-style aesthetic, complete with checkered tiled flooring, wooden tables and chairs, quirky lighting and fixtures, while the spacious covered outdoor area is the perfect spot for lovely warm weather. I really loved the cutesy cartoon-style elements which are incorporated into the place mats and exterior walls, and thought this added a nice personal touch.

One thing that struck us immediately was the visual feast that each dish provided as it left the kitchen. Gorgeously towering burgers and beautifully stacked salads were carried out to our fellow patrons, which made us very keen to get stuck in. After much indecisiveness I decided to try the Saldanha Bay Black Mussels (in White Wine, Garlic and Double cream, served with fries - R84) whilst Di selected the Prawn and Avo salad from the specials board (served with Lime Mayo - R85). And we were not disappointed!  Di's salad was very generous and she had great fun finding yet another prawn under the lettuce leaves. My mussels dish was also very generously portioned, to the point where I couldn't quite finish it all.

Lime Tree Cafe appeals to a wide range of people - on the day we visited we saw friends having a chat over lunch, a couple of gents grabbing a quick bite to eat and a mom hanging out with her young son. The menu offers Breakfast dishes, salads, and sandwiches for light meals, and also provides larger meal options from starters to main dishes and lovely beef burgers.  Lime Tree Cafe are still waiting for their liquor licence, so guests are able to BYO.
