It’s not worth being broke, it’s not worth being broke, it’s not … oh who am I kidding - anything from Skinny laMinx is totally worth living on Two Minute Noodles for a few weeks. One metre of this fabric is like one cookie - it’s just never, ever enough. Think the most cleverly coordinated patterns, colourful florals, and quirky geometric and unusual prints - and you’ll be spot on. Be it a tea towel, a cushion cover, or a zip purse, these brilliant Scandi-inspired designs are totally swoon-worthy!

Everything at Skinny laMinx is designed by the super talented Heather Moore – a self-taught designer and illustrator who started her business as a hobby. Named after Heather’s slinky Siamese cat, as well as a mix of the playground chant “skinnymalinky Long Legs”, it all began in a small boutique in Bree Street in Cape Town. There is also an online store and their products are sold everywhere from Jozi to The Big Apple. The aesthetic can be summed up as elegantly exuberant and each and every single item is thoughtfully designed, excellently made and has a story which really adds depth to the overall appeal.

The product range includes the most gorgeous little smock dresses for children, aprons that will persuade even the most reluctant cooks to spend time in the kitchen, and Stash Bags for storing all those bits and bobs. There’s also fabric squares if you’re keen to try a little DIY and paper goods like gift tags, greeting cards and tissue paper.

One of my favourite collections has got to be Paradise Is Here which was inspired by a trip Heather took to Tokyo. Think fresh fabrics with leafy patterns that showcase plants that grow in an urban environment. If there’s one thing you should know when decorating your home it’s this: fashion is fickle. Yip, wallpaper is back in style with a vengeance and what I love about the various designs from Skinny laMinx, is that they are classic yet quirky so they won’t date. The Paradise is Here wallpaper was collaborated with designer Robin Sprong and includes fun prints of Orla, Duikers, Brancusi Stripe, Wild Flowers, Bowls, Woodpile and Flower Fields. It’s all printed on pre-gummed PVC wallpaper which is 100 per cent recyclable and printed with non-toxic latex ink. Keep cutting, stitching, printing and designing Heather – ‘cos I want it all!
