A few Saturdays ago, a group of girlfriends and myself decided to spend our Saturday afternoon in the elegant Table Bay Hotel lounge sipping on fine teas and feasting on an assortment of delectable pastries. It was a fabulous experience – just wait until I tell you everything about the wonderful high tea at The Table Bay Hotel!

After a recent partnership with TWG tea, one of the finest luxury tea brands in the world, the five-star Sun International Waterfront hotel has infused their already impressive offering with a couple of opulent extras. Now an irresistible three-course affair, patrons are invited to tuck into separate themed selections with contemporary loose-leaf teas.

When my girlfriends and I arrived at the luxurious hotel, we were instantly blown away by the glorious spread of cakes, tarts, pastries, scones, sandwiches and other eats on display. To add, the atmosphere was lovely and relaxed, despite the high tea being fully booked out that day. Feeling pretty peckish, we decided to take a seat in the lounge and get right down to filling up our plates.

The first course included savoury edibles like delicately sliced cucumber sandwiches, and a ham and mushroom quiche. Everything was fresh and delicious! The second course was devoted to a high tea mainstay; fresh scones with butter, jam and cream. We enjoyed ours with a pot of French Earl Grey tea. The scones were fantastic, and ever so moreish.

The third course was my favourite, and the ultimate indulgence, in my opinion. It consisted of the most heavenly desserts you can think of, such as chocolate puffs with hazelnut cream, banana cupcakes with butterscotch sauce, and caramel pound cakes smothered in honeycomb. Can you say sweet treats galore?

After indulging in all of the wonderful sweet treats, we washed it all down with a pot of exclusive Bain de Roses black tea blend. I must also add that some other standout treats, according to my friends, included the vanilla crème brulee, chocolate truffle tart, black forest cake, white chocolate gateau, and fruit salsa.

I’ve got to say, I’m pretty bleak I was in too much of a sugar coma to try everything out for myself! Oh well – there’s always a next time, right? I’ll certainly be back again for this absolutely divine high tea. It’s perfect for a birthday tea or an afternoon get together with friends or family.
